A great manga starter book

I received this book as a gift from my sister, I like to draw and I love manga so I was curious about it and started it immediately. The introduction mainly tells you about the history of manga, different types of manga, and then you get different art techniques and tips which was actually really helpful, before a big section with over 100 lessons on drawing different parts of the anatomy, and then lessons on drawing everything you learned into a character! It even has a game to integrate different styles.

Pros:
1. It's very well laid out and easy to follow, I'm not naturally talented, but the book is not confusing for me and the steps are all there, no "Draw a circle - now draw the rest of the owl" type stuff. Very clear instructions, line by line drawing, techniques, everything that can actually show you how to get from point A. to point B. And with your own work!

2. Everything is adorable. Usually when you buy a how-to-draw book it's a little bit intimidating, but this one's very easy going, the art is fun and very well done, and adds to the instructions rather than just being there to show you how much the artist is better than you.

3. I really like that the artist has a YouTube channel with additional instructions

4. The information on drawing eyes, hands, and faces is really extensive, more so than I was expecting. Because these are all difficult parts for me, the extra time and lessons were very much appreciated.

5. The book is surprisingly big, there are lots of lessons. It says 128 pages but every page is huge, and you get drawing lessons on each one.

6. The game is a lot of fun, and really great if you're like me and don't know what to draw

7. I can definitely draw manga characters using this book

Cons:
1. I will have to buy more art supplies. The tips on inking and different types of pencils really make me want to up my game.
2. While there are a ton of lessons, I do wish it had a bit more information on drawing outfits,

10/10 would buy again. I'm already seeing improvements on my manga style, and I can't wait to keep practicing.

Colorful, fun, easy to follow and informative. Highly recommended (especially to beginners)!

This book is well put together and I highly recommend it.

The instructions are easy to understand and is packed with useful little tips for improving your manga drawings. The pages are filled with step-by-step illustrations to help beginners follow along with the instructions. You never get lost between steps and the chapters/content is well organized to help with your progression.

Aside from demonstrating the basics on how to draw manga characters (normal sized and chibi), the book covers a variety of topics such as
- creating hair styles
- drawing clothing details properly
- mapping facial expressions correctly
- manga inking and shading techniques
- idea generation for interesting and unique characters
- creating polished pictures
- creating well constructed manga pages with multiple panels

I love it

I don't have a lot of experience with how to draw manga books but this one is exactly what I was hoping for! I think it's worth the money just for the art if you like chibis and manga. Cute drawings on every page.The fire athlete is so hot! The instructions are easy to follow, lots of step by step and I didn't get lost once, and everything was so much fun, I really wish I could go get in person lessons now. I follow Mistiqarts on YouTube which is why I pre-ordered it and then it arrived a full month before it said it would ship. I was really surprised by how big the book is, it says it's only 128 pages but there are a LOT of lessons and they're all really big and easy to see, not like the little pocket drawing guides you see a lot. Super excited so far and I can't wait to draw something else.

Just alright...

It’s hard to describe what I feel about this book. It’s definitely not like or dislike, but just – meh. Many spoilers ahead, so stop reading now if you don’t want to know any. This book is about college student Grace from the U.S. She lands a prestigious internship in London at Huntington Ventures, where it just so happens that the founder/CEO is a superhot Brit and member of the aristocracy, Jonathan Huntington. As fate would have it, she crosses his path upon arriving in London and immediately catches his attention. But unbeknownst to her, she also catches the attention of Jonathan’s creepy Japanese associate Yuuto Nagako. Grace’s coworker, Annie, tries to warn her away from a guy like Jonathan… but you know she doesn’t listen. As they engage in an “only sex, nothing more” affair, Grace (stereotypically) finds herself falling for Jonathan. But is she willing to accept what little Jonathan can offer in terms of a “relationship”?
And the answer to this question at the end of the story is – No. But of course, Grace doesn’t come to that healthy conclusion until she engages in said affair, meets his family and closest friend (who both seem to like her a lot), and agrees to go with Jonathan to an exclusive (sex) club. It is while at the club does Grace realize she wants to be exclusive (because she loves him), whereas Jonathan likes to get his kicks with a lot of random strangers. Not to mention Yuuto wanted her to come to the club from the jump, and that still didn’t send up enough flags for Grace to pass on the whole situation. So, of course this story ends on a cliffhanger – Jonathan runs after Grace in the rain as she’s fleeing from (high-class) Swingersville. But what does he have to offer to make her stay now that she realizes she can’t go through with a one-sided relationship? I’ll have to read the next story to find out. Which I will but, I do want to say this…
This story is such a 50 Shades knock-off; with that being said, aren’t they all? And 50 Shades is probably a knock-off of another story, but regardless, they all seems so formulaic:
- Normally unattainable billionaire uber-hunk
- Na�ve early 20s woman, who doesn’t realize how beautiful she is
- “Impossible” relationship problems to overcome
- Strange sexual appetites
- Family problems
- Weird older sexual mentor
So why did I read this book? – Because I was intrigued by the description of the last book of the series, but knew I’d have to read the first two to understand what was going on. And read on I shall, if not for any other reason than I always try to read a story straight through. And seeing as how I was provided all three books via NetGalley (in exchange for an honest review), an honest review I have given.

An Internship in more ways than one

Grace is a student at the University of Chicago studying Economics. She wins an internship to Huntington Ventures in England. The CEO, Jonathan Huntington, is one of the most eligible bachelors in England.

He doesn't have relationships, only sex, and belongs to an exclusive sex clubs. His desires seem to come from a dark side and troubled past.

Grace is naive, has never really been in a relationship and is a virgin. She has focused solely on her studies. She is unable to resist this dominant billionaire and his sex appeal and skill she mixes business and pleasure. She interns in his company and bed against the advice of many around her. He doesn't want to only have sex with her either. Can she handle his lifestyle?

The sex scenes are off the charts hot and there are.a lot of them. The book ends with a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next installment.

Really great read!

This is book one in the "Colours of Love" Series. This is my first book by this author too...but once I read this book I had to go and find book two 'Uncovered' because I had to know how things ended. Yes, book one does have a cliffhanger similar to 50 Shades of Grey where you need to the next book to pick up their story. Also it touched lightly on 50 Shades of Grey in their love scene but did not go as far. I truly liked this story and really go into the characters and even the secondary characters were really good!
Grace our heroine, is a young 22 year old lady who has never really left home and has only been going to college but she get a internship at a London Office for three months and decides that she really wants to go. Grace has been following the company history and the owner. On her first day in London at the airport she see Jonathan Huntington who is the owner of the company. She thinks at first he is there to pick her up and she goes to him only to find out he doesn't even know her but is there to pick up some Japanese colleges. So embarrassed she starts to walk away trying to find other transportation when he comes up to her and tells her they will take her to his office. When he drops her off at the office everyone is shocked that she had caught his attention and that he even gave her the time of day. The next day she is called into his office and he offers her to intern as his assistant and her original interning job. She quickly agrees know this is a good opportunity for her and her future career. Grace does wonder if she can handle the attraction she feels for him and do this job at the same time but decides to go forward with the offer. Grace starts to find that Jonathan is not so immune to her either.. But Jonathan seems very cold him some of his attitude towards her. Jonathan does act different around his sister and his best friend so she knows he is can be somewhat off guard at times. I really cannot say enough about this book and hope that you too will enjoy their emotional and wonderful story.

Reality Therapy still relevant after fifty years

This book was written fifty years ago. The approach is still being taught around the world as a method of counselling that helps people take charge of their life. Even though written in a time when psychiatrists largely used Freud and ways to blame a person's past for current mental illness, Dr Glasser swam against the tide with his notion of only being able the act in the present.He believed we can't change the past. Dr Glasser maintained this stance until his death in 2013; indeed the consistency of his thinking over those fifty years is evident.
The ideas in this book led the way to what is becoming mainstream thinking in mental health. An excellent book for anyone who is in the helping profession.

A new approach to therapy

Although a new approach to therapy is revealed by the means of making the patient confront reality and making him/her responsible for their actions, no specific methods are discussed in detail other than engaging in a meaningful relationship with the patient.
It's certainly an eye opener for those who seek conventional therapy, which blames the current problems on your past experiences. On the contrary, reality therapy emphasizes the need of a deep and meaningful human connection between the therapist and the patient for the patient to give that first step towards improving his/ her life. Worth reading if interested in a different approach to emotional troubles, more so with young adults.

Glasser's findings are a breakthrough for psychology. His observations are eye-opening, practical, and highly responsible. I highly recommend this book to all counselors and teachers.

A Foundational book on the science of values

Milton Rokeach is probably one of the most respected and quoted authorities in the area of value studies. This text follows his privotal book, "The Nature of Human Values." In this text, Rokeach attempts to "go beyond the conceptualization and measurement of individual values to the conceptualization and measurement of supraindividual values...." His is one of the first works to apply solid (rather than rhetorical) logic to issues of values in organizations. This book covers many important areas including change and stability of American Values, discusses issues such as "Can Values be Manipulated?" and spends three chapters on Value Education. Rokeach is the editor for this text, and also a contributor for half-a-dozen of the articles in the book.

The market as a social field

Over past decades, what has bestowed the identity on economic sociology is the shared hostility to neoclassical economics. But besides it, unfortunately, they have agreed on nothing. And worse, economists simply pass over their arguments. They are no more than fusses about nothing. The reason is simple: there are no potent enough alternatives in sociological camp. Fligstein argues that this is because sociological approaches lack a organizing frame to explain economic processes as generic social processes. To make it effective, there should be a simple and powerful enough theoretical frame. Offering such an approach is what Fligstein intends with this book.
Economic action takes place in the market. Fligstein holds that there is no reason to treat the market differently. Social action takes place in organized social space, or field in Bourdieu��s term. Fields is the space where one try to dominate others. But the domination in that space is systemized and routinized. It defines local relations between actors. Once in place, the interactions in fields become ��games�� where groups in filed who have more power use the acceptable rules to reproduce their power: the domination system is institutionalized. This process makes action in fields inherently political. Studying field is about opening of new social space, how it becomes and remains stable (become a field), and the forces that transform fields.
Fligstein replaces profit-maximizing actor with one who takes care of the survival of their firm. Managers and owners are trying enhance the survival of the firm by reducing the uncertainties they face in the market. Managing uncertain environment is a sizable task. It��s about the search for stable and predictable interactions with competitors, suppliers, and workers. Relationship between seller and buyer is fleeting. Stability in the market lies in the relationship between sellers, then. Relationships between them delineate the market as a field. The social relations are oriented toward maintaining the advantage of largest seller firms in the face of their challengers. They define how the market works and how competition is structured. Although the firms compete, they have produced an equilibrium whereby they survive by following the accepted tactics of competition. As forms of social relation, market systems involve both shared understanding and concrete social relations. The shared understandings structure the interactions between competitors but also allow actors to make sense of their competitors actions. There are four types of rules relevant to producing social structure in markets: property rights, governance structures, rules of exchange, and conception of control. These categories are the essential analytic tools in Fligstein��s approach. They enable researcher to dissect empirically. But definition and details are intricate to propose here. I��ll skip it.
Part I of this book sketch out the theoretical outline of Fligstein��s approach. Part II support it with case studies of labor market, corporate governance, and globalization. On the whole, this book is readable and persuasive. Points are clear, lines are easy to follow. In my opinion, it��s a breakthrough in economic sociology.

Not very revealing

I had high hopes for this book.
It really let me down.
As I read through the book I kept saying "duh" to myself. Unless you are a conservative with a fantasticailly naive ideal of capitalism wherein business acts perfectly rationally and only to maximize profit, there is little to be gained from this book. Anyone with a basic knowledge of the realities of capitlism will not be learning much that wasn't already known - though they may lack the terminology and rigor of his sociological definitions.
There is an interesting chapter near the end about how the ideology of corporate control has changed, and with it how corporations have functioned. This is the only real chapter that I found interesting.
The last chapter of the book is a weak defense of globalization. His "political-cultural approach" fails to offer any explanation for why the economy has undergone so many significant changes in the past twenty five years. He defines the amount of "globalization" as the amount of trade flows across borders and then insists that globalization has not caused an increase in inequality because Japan and Europe, who are less dependent on foreign trade than America have not suffered the same increase in inequality!
