Rf Circuit Design by Christopher Bowick

This is an excellent practical design guide for RF engineers. It treats the components as lumped elements and covers most of the important issues like impedance transformation, matching networks, and practical amplifier design. You can approach RF either thru the wave or circuit analysis. If you dont have either the patience and curiosity to dwelve into the whys, then this book is for you. A solid understanding of RF requires an in depth knowledge of Maxwell equations and their application to the boundary conditions. For the mathematically inclined I would recommend the Microwave Engineering by David Pozar.
Missing in the book RF circuit Design are topics dealing with distributed elements, microstrip and slot line designs which become very important in the Ghz range where even IC pad's reactance is large, and wavelength can approach 1mm.

Absolutely the best

Don't you get sick of textbook writers who cover leaps in logic with "obvious to the most casual observer", and it is not obvious to you (or me) at all? No explanation either because it is too complex for the author to make simple or too simple for the author to stoop to explaining it?
That doesn't happen in this book. If Bowick brings it up, he explains it--better than I have found anywhere else. In fact, when other authors don't bother explaining it, you can check Bowick for the explanation.
I have Horowitz & Hill on my shelf. I have Wes Hayward on my shelf. I have Sedra & Smith on my shelf. All excellent books I can't do without. But the clearest explanations of RF design for engineers and advanced hobbyists are in Chris Bowick's small, but powerful RF Circuit Design. Engineers will find it useful. QRP hams who build their own gear will find it indispensable.

Probably not for someone that isn't an electrical engineer or physics major.

This book is over my head, so I'm not sure I'm the right person to review this. I was hoping for something more approachable. That being said, it might become more valuable when I learn more.
