The Icelandic Language

Icelandic, the official language of Iceland, is spoken by the island nation's entire population of just over 330,000. For example, the word “computer” did not exist in Icelandic, so a new word, t�lva, was created. T�lva is a combination of two existing words, tala (number) and v�lva (a prophetess or magical seer) or, literally, "number prophet".

Dr. Paul Pimsleur devoted his life to language teaching and testing and was one of the world’s leading experts in applied linguistics. After years of experience and research, Dr. Pimsleur developed The Pimsleur Method based on two key principles: the Principle of Anticipation and a scientific principle of memory training that he called “Graduated Interval Recall.” This Method has been applied to the many levels and languages of the Pimsleur Programs.

A good resource to start learning icelandic by speaking at once. Even though the discs contain audio files instead of mp3 files, the quality of the sound is excellent. I am checking the actual use of some expressions in nowadays. If you want to get into the Icelandic language quickly, this is a higly recommended resource that you should use in the first stage of learning Icelandic.

Great so far, my only critique is that this is taught as if you were a man. I wish there was a feminine version of this. It'll probably end up working but sounding funny to some Icelanders.

These poems are to be read, re- read, savoured as they linger long after you put the book down.
With some I find myself going back again and again for the sheer joy of the emotions put so clearly and beautifully.

Not the best murder mystery...

The storytelling was choppy. It didn't flow very well and some of the incdents seemed to come out of the blue. Needed better editing and maybe re-writing. The basic story was fine, it just didn't hang together very well.

Love this cozy with a touch of witchcraft !

Really enjoyed this. 3 sister witches living together and running a bakery. The youngest was formerly a police detective and the middle a baker, while the oldest was able to heal broken hearts. They try to keep a low profile in order to fit better and not scare the rest of the village with being witches, until a body was dumped on them. I enjoyed following the mystery, and seeing how they resolved their problems. Dont want to give away details, as it is so much fun to see it develop. Well written, and you start to get to know each of the sisters. Cant wait for the next story to know more about them. Lots of potential ! I also enjoyed that it is a complete story. Just want another one as this one was fun to read.

I love the way Kennedy Chase writes, I can't get enough the books, I can't wait for the next book of the Hemlock series. I love the characters of the dog and cat, I love Grace and her family, I love witch books I am not into romantic books, this book just had a touch of that, and that is what I like. Not so sappy, intriguing, interesting, mysterious, and like I said witchy.....I won't go into details of the book, that is for you all to read, but I read it in a day or two or three.

About the Author

LIONEL MELKA started his career in 1998 with Lazard Fr�res, where he undertook numerous M&A advisory engagements for blue chip clients (French State, LVMH, Air France, Saint-Gobain, Casino, France Telecom, Thomson, Air Liquide, Danone, Vivendi, or Kingfisher) in a large scope of situations: privatizations, friendly and hostile takeover bids, LBOs, asset disposals and IPOs. He then joined the M&A Department of Cr�dit Agricole, where he worked on various advisory assignments in the TMT-Defence team and, in 2005, he joined LCF Rothschild where he led many M&A cross-border assignments in various industry sectors. He is also a teacher at the University of Paris Dauphine and is the co-writer of Le Merger Arbitrage, a French reference book published in 2011 by Economica. Lionel received a Master’s degree in finance from the University of Paris – Dauphine.

AMIT SHABI started his career as a commander of an analyst team in a military intelligence unit of the Israel Defence Forces. Prior to founding Bernheim, Dreyfus & Co. and launching the Diva Synergy Fund, he worked in asset management at LCF Rothschild and then as an OTC derivatives sales at MAN group and BGC Cantor Fitzgerald. Amit holds a Master’s degree in business administration from the Sorbonne University and is the co-writer of Le Merger Arbitrage, a French reference book published in 2011 by Economica.

I'm stealing Crisa's name for my first born. Lol

It's quite refreshing to find a book that shows off a multicultural family that embodies what America is today and trying to survive in a situation when everything seems impossible. It's nice to find a Filipino character in the book, even though it's not the leading role, but definitely made a mold to Crisa's character. The book is definitely centered around Crisa, but each character she's around with and encounters help create her personal growth in the story. This book is a pleasant read, making you look forward to the next chapter. Please hurry up and put the second installment. Thank you!

Surprisingly a gripping read. I noticed that me and the author have the same name and curiosity got the best of me. Characters are brilliant and the tension and stress of living amongst other survivors is really well written. Love that it's a simple read too, wonderfullly graphic, gory! Cannot wait to get started on Book 2!

I have always liked a book that does not think for me but which makes me think. This one did.

This book is an introduction to, as I understand, a quartet series but is already filled with action, mystery and controversy. Part 1 also showed several themes: chaos vs peace and order; love and sacrifice. The important characters for me are Crisa and her stepfather, Daniel Agridor. Their personalities will slowly shift towards the middle part of the book. The main idea here is survival. One quote that stood out for me which summarizes the idea is this, "The problem is the government looks at it in a context of the country while a person looks at it in a context of his family and home. To protect his family, he will say 'It's every man for himself'." The author was able to support his idea when the family experienced and witnessed fear and trauma, and the question that came to mind was "Which matters most, personal preservation and survival over compassion and selflessness? The answer was clear. Family comes first. The author should publish the second part soon as not to keep his readers hanging for long. I'm looking forward to the mysteries unfolding and expecting more twists. I would recommend this to young readers and to fans of fiction with military action, and political and economic issues. And those who are simply book lovers..

This book is a legendary classic in the field of general construction and is a must for personnel involved in construction management, general contracting and professional consulting. It covers all aspects of construction from company organization, estimating, field procedures, cost control, changes, punchlist, claims, labor relations and safety. The appendix contains reference standard documents and contract boilerplate from the AIA, AGC and others. It would take 20 years of work in the construction field to obtain the knowledge that this book can help to provide. This text is a must for all construction professionals.

Informative but Boring

This book is really informative and helpful for grasping all the aspects for construction contracting, but it's incredibly boring unless paired with practical applications. In other words where typical textbooks would attempt illustrations to assist the reader in comprehension this book makes no such attempt. Also, the sections of the chapters could be better organised. Some of the sections should become subsections for better comprehension. The information is all there and the author has done a thorough job, it just needs more to assist in teaching.

About the Author

Meaghan Kombol was born in Seattle, Washington, and worked for the maverick design company M&Co in New York before moving to London in 2002 where she worked at London's Design Museum before graduating from Greenwich University with a Masters in Landscape Architecture. Since then she has worked with some of the most exciting names in the field, including Martha Schwartz and Kathryn Gustafson — where she worked on the celebrated design for the 'Towards Paradise' garden at the 2008 Venice Architecture Biennale. In addition to editing numerous books for Phaidon Press, she has written for The Phaidon Atlas of 21st Century World Architecture and Phaidon's Design Classics.
